The Failures Of The Women’s Health Movement And Black Panther Party

We explored inequities in medicine, medical knowledge, health and health care. We also examined multiple radical health movements (Women’s Health Movement &  Black Panther Party) and the strategies they utilized that were designed to end those inequities. Today, inequities continue to exist for many groups and in many areas connected to medicine, medical knowledge, health and health care.

Thinking as an ES/WGQS scholar-activist, what should today’s radical health movements learn from these earlier efforts?

1. Strategies/approaches

   • Identify and describe at least 2 strategies/approaches utilized by the Women’s Health Movement that today’s radical health movements should emulate (use as model).

   • Identify and describe at least 2 strategies/approaches utilized by the Black Panther Party that today’s radical health movements should emulate (use as model).

   • What’s different and what’s the same between the Women’s Health Movement & Black Panther Party strategies/approaches and what can we learn from this?

2. Failures or problems or un-successes

   • Then, identify and describe at least 1 thing that today’s radical health movements can learn from failures or problems or un-successes by the Women’s Health Movement.

   • Then, identify and describe at least 1 thing that today’s radical health movements can learn from failures or problems or un-successes by Black Panther Party health activism.

   • What’s different and what’s the same between the Women’s Health Movement &  Black Panther Party failures or problems or un-successes and what can we learn from this?
