The Common Job Skills That All Healthcare Administrators Must Be Competent In For Success

This week you will write a paper reflecting on “Healthcare Administrators – Who They Are and What They Do” and answer the following questions:

• Describe what interests you most in a healthcare administration career. (what interests me most is the ability to work behind the scenes in the healthcare industry  without doing hands on patient care, however being a vital role in the industry.) How are those interests similar or different than what you learned about who healthcare administrators are in reference to the week 1 reading assignments? (reading one assignment was: Fundamentals of Health Care Administration prepares students for comprehensive education on the health care industry, and helps them build the strong critical thinking and analysis skills they will need as administrators. Its broad coverage includes finance, human resources, risk assessment, crisis management, compliance, internal and external audits, quality assessment/control, performance improvement, legal and ethical concerns, and more. The first chapter includes a bulleted list of required knowledge and skills from an actual health care administrator’s job description. The remaining chapters tie directly to that job description. )

• Compare and contrast the job skills that are universal (i.e., applicable in all healthcare organizations) vs. those that are unique for a specific type of healthcare organization – pick 2 (e.g., nonprofit or for profit hospital, medical clinic, nursing home, assisted living facility, etc.). Make sure to justify why certain job skills only apply in specific types of healthcare organizations.
