The Use Of Symbols In The Metamorphosis

Essay Assignment:

Choose one of the novellas (The Death of Ivan Ilych or The Metamorphosis) and analyze the use of symbols and how they reveal and/or connect with a theme (or themes) of the work. In your analysis, make sure not to simply list symbols, but to provide an analysis of why they exist in the work, what purpose they serve and how they connect to a theme (or themes).  In order to do this, you will also need to have a clear understanding of the work’s theme/s and be able to elucidate its full expression and function in the story.

General Requirements:

• Page Length = 3-4 pages (3 page minimum, 4 pages max.)
• Title: Use an original tile
• POV = 3rd person
• Structure: Introduction (with thesis statement) 3 Main Ideas and Conclusion
• MLA Formatting (Times/New Roman 12 pt. font and double space)
